Event Radar
What the oil news is doing, every 30 minutes.
Oil prices jump when something happens: a war, a pipeline outage, an OPEC+ meeting. The Event Radar follows the news so these moments are noticed early. It counts the headlines on each theme and shows when one becomes much louder than usual.

EXHIBIT E.1 · TODAY
How loud is each theme today?
1.0 x = a normal day
Grey: normal (below 1.5 x) Light: busy (1.5 to 2.5 x) Dark: very busy (above 2.5 x) Busy needs at least 3 headlines in 24 hours.
EXHIBIT E.2 · LAST 90 DAYS
News and price, side by side
price: FRED; news: since 3 Oct 2026
Each small box is one day. The darker the box, the louder that theme was in the news. The radar started on 3 October 2026, so the boxes fill in day by day from there.
EXHIBIT E.3 · RECENT LOUD MOMENTS
What was in the news
newest at the top
No loud moments since the radar started on 3 October 2026.
EXAMPLE OF HOW A LOUD MOMENT WILL LOOK
We show the headline and a link. The article belongs to its publisher.
HOW IT WORKS
1 Read
Every 30 minutes the server reads new headlines from public energy news feeds.
2 Sort
Each headline goes into one of five themes by its words: supply, demand, stocks, conflict, money.
3 Compare
Today's count per theme is compared with a normal day. Until 90 days are measured, normal is built from the days so far. Much more than normal lights up.
HOW IT IS USED
The engineer reads the radar when writing each quarterly case and explains in the case what mattered. The radar itself never changes a signed number.
WHAT IT IS NOT
It recommends no action. A loud theme says the news is busy, not which way the price will move.
